Shopify image size guide

Product images:

- Recommended: 2048×2048px (or larger — Shopify will resize down on delivery)

- Minimum effective: 1024×1024px (enables zoom on desktop)

- Aspect ratio: 1:1 (square) strongly recommended for consistent collection grids

- File size: Under 20MB; 500KB–2MB after compression is ideal for page speed

- Format: JPG for photos (better compression); PNG for images with text overlays or transparent backgrounds

Why 2048px matters: Shopify serves images at multiple sizes depending on device. High-DPI (retina) displays need 2× the display resolution to look sharp. A product displayed at 1024×1024px on a retina MacBook needs a 2048×2048px source image to render sharply.
Collection page thumbnails: Shopify uses the first product image as the collection thumbnail. Ensure this image is clean and legible at 200–400px (the typical thumbnail display size in collection grids).

Amazon image size guide

Main image (position 1):

- Minimum: 1,000px on the longest side

- Recommended: 2,000px on the longest side (enables full zoom functionality)

- Ideal: 2,000×2,000px square, pure white background (RGB 255,255,255)

- Format: JPG strongly preferred; PNG accepted

- File size: Under 10MB

Zoom functionality threshold: Amazon activates its hover-zoom feature when images are at least 1,000px on the longest side. Zoom is directly correlated with conversion rate — buyers who zoom convert at 2–3× the rate of buyers who don't. Always use 2,000px+ for zoom quality on retina displays.

Secondary images (positions 2–9):

- Same size requirements as main image

- No background colour restriction

- Lifestyle, infographic, and detail images all permitted

A+ Content images:

- Module-specific sizes (typically 970×300px for banner modules, 300×300px for square modules)

- Check Amazon's A+ Content guidelines in Seller Central for current module dimensions

January 31, 2027 changes: Google is moving toward stricter image quality enforcement. Sellers with images below 800×800px or on non-white backgrounds risk feed disruptions. Migrate to clean, high-resolution images on white backgrounds before the deadline.
Quality scoring: Google's automated quality scoring uses image resolution, background quality, and visual clarity as inputs to ad quality assessment. Higher-quality images achieve better Quality Scores, which reduce CPC and improve ad rank.
