Product Bundle

A bundle is two or more products sold together as a single unit, typically at a slight discount. Bundles raise AOV and can create a unique listing that avoids direct price comparison.

What is Product Bundle?

Product bundling combines complementary items into one SKU. On Amazon, bundles are created as new ASINs — the bundle listing is unique to you, so competitors can't jump on it or undercut you the way they can on a generic standalone product. This makes bundling one of the few strategies that simultaneously raises AOV and insulates margin.

On Shopify, bundles can be physical (items packed together) or virtual (items added to cart at a combined price using an app). Physical bundles are especially effective for consumables where customers use multiple products together — a cleanser, toner, and moisturiser sold as a 'starter kit' is a classic example.

Virtual bundles on Amazon (available via Brand Registry) let customers purchase multiple ASINs in one transaction without creating a new physical bundle. They appear on individual product pages as 'Frequently bought together' recommendations.

Why it matters for sellers

Bundles raise AOV without discounting individual products. A $10 discount on a $120 bundle feels more valuable to the customer than a $3 discount on a $40 item — even though the economics are similar. The perceived value of 'getting a deal on a set' drives higher conversion than product-level discounts.

For Amazon private label sellers, a unique bundle ASIN also means no Buy Box competition on that listing. You own it entirely. If competitors sell the same standalone products at lower prices, your bundle is simply not directly comparable — shoppers can't click 'see all offers' and find a cheaper version.

How to use Product Bundle

Identify your top-selling product and find the 1–2 items customers most commonly purchase alongside it (check Amazon's 'Frequently bought together' and Shopify's order data). Price the bundle so customers save 10–15% versus buying separately. Keep the bundle value proposition clear in the title and bullet points.

On Amazon, submit your bundle as a new ASIN. Include 'Bundle' in the title so customers searching for sets find it. For Shopify, use an app like Bundler or Bold Bundles to create a dynamic bundle that adds all items to cart at the combined price.

Real-world example

eg.

A pet brand sells a dog collar at $24 and a matching leash at $18. They create an Amazon bundle ASIN at $36 (saving $6 vs. buying separately). The bundle listing has no direct competitors. It generates 40% of their total revenue within 90 days, with a 28% higher margin per order than selling the items individually on promotion.

Frequently asked questions about Product Bundle

Can I bundle any products on Amazon?

Amazon has bundling rules: items must be complementary, from the same category, and the bundle must offer clear value. You cannot bundle a branded product with your private label product without permission. Create a new ASIN for the bundle — don't list it under an existing ASIN.

What is the difference between a virtual bundle and a physical bundle on Amazon?

A physical bundle packs items together and ships as one unit. A virtual bundle (via Brand Registry) groups existing ASINs into a 'bundle' on your listing page but each item still ships separately from its own inventory. Virtual bundles are easier to set up but have less impact on AOV than physical ones.

How much should I discount a bundle?

10–15% off the combined individual prices is the sweet spot. Enough to feel like a deal, not so much that you erode margin. If individual items are frequently promoted anyway, you can price the bundle at full combined price — the convenience alone is the value proposition.
